So, aside from the obvious weather differences, there are some significant cultural differences out here in the Orange State.
For one, the wealth here is very conspicuous. Our boat has been (by far) the smallest in every marina we’ve visited so far. Our first next door neighbor was “Hangover”, an 80ft plus yacht, with a 25ft fishing dinghy named “Hungover”. The owners were super nice. They liked to hang out in Nantucket, and typically hired a fishing captain to drive their dinghy there for them…. And run it while they were there. Hangover is on the right. Hungover is on the left:
The picture doesn’t do either boat justice.
And the party culture is ubiquitous. Across from our first marina was a small island with a pontoon ferry boat that delivered 20 or so party goers to the island every 30 minutes or so. We thought about taking our dinghy over to the island to check out the beach, but before even 10am in the morning the beach was covered by boats nosed up on the sand, filled with loud techno/hip hop music, and tons of tanned young Floridians. Wow. We decided to stay on our side of the water.
Dinner out that night was at a tiki bar. Food was great. Drinks came in “buckets”. Entertainment was watching two white ladies dancing to Snoop Dog in front of a Bentley. Again, wow.
And then, in the morning, was this:
Again, wow. So pretty….
Happy Birthday Gary!
You couldda blasted those island party goers with some T-Pain!
