Loving Christmas time in Florida… but home for the holidays? Yes please!
We bought plane tickets and pointed our boat toward the closest large airport. Tampa International fit the bill and Gulfport Marina was close by.
We got to Gulfport, had some dinner, and packed up for an early morning flight. Didn’t bother packing our boating clothes (mostly shorts and flip flops) because we heard a rumor that it would be cold in Oregon in December.
Four a.m. Uber to the airport, and we were on our way! We made it home in between major winter storms. Our flights were on time and filled with happy, well behaved travelers. Yay! But wow, was it cold when we stepped off the plane in Eugene.
We even had some freezing rain while we were there!
It was great to see family, and we did all of the traditional things. A tree, lots of great food, friends, family, gifts, etc. So nice to be at home again.
The time there was too short. It really made us appreciate all of the niceties of a land-based home, and all of the people we love that we are so far away from on the Loop.
But life marches on, and back to the boat we went. Back to the Sunshine State. Back to our tiny kitchen, weirdly shaped bed, and nomadic lifestyle. Back to meeting new people, visiting places we’ve never been before, and experiencing life in a very different way.
And back to the nice weather! Ahhhhh…. Life on the Loop can be pretty darn good!
