We’ve explored quite a bit of the Puget Sound and San Juans (see maps of all of the places we’ve stayed). Still need to visit Victoria if we can!
And now that both of Gary’s feet have fused big toes, he is healing up, and we are ready to head to Florida!
Moving a boat over land is a bit complicated. Arranging haul out, cleaning and prep of the boat, to shrink wrap or not (?), finding a transport service, and figuring out where to splash on the other end. Not to mention insurance, plane flights and hotels for the humans meeting the boat…. It is a lot. But all in the service of a grand adventure!
Here is our rough plan….. Splash in Florida (Stuart? Vero Beach? West Palm Beach?) on March 1st, spend a couple of days making sure the boat didn’t develop any issues on the road trip, then head down to the Bahamas for a couple of weeks. After we’re sufficiently tanned, relaxed, and scuba-ed out, we will start heading North on the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW). This will be our approximate path:
Spring on the east coast, Summer in Canada and the Great Lakes, Fall on the river system, and Winter in Florida and the Bahamas (again). A full year of fun!
I am Chuck Orlick’s oldest sister and he and Deb told me about your adventure. We are now living on the water in the Annapolis area and are planning to make a similar trek if I can ever get myself to retire! Subscribing to your newsletter will certainly provide good tips and trip-envy. I am looking forward to reading about the lock system when you get there. If you haven’t read it, a great read is “Crossing the Wake” - a true story about a woman who did the Great Loop solo in a 25’ Ranger Tug. By the way, your boat is beautiful - I love Ranger Tugs. Have a great time and safe travels. Diane Leasure
Wow fantastic.
