A lot has happened during the two months we were in Canada, and I have been remiss in letting friends and family come along with us in our travels to some of our favorite places on the loop….the Georgian Bay and North Channel!
So here we go. It’s not a full retelling, but hits some of the highlights for sure.
When we landed in Parry Sound, we immediately got stuck for a few days due to weather. But not to worry, we had a lot of fun anyway!
A hike to the top of a mountain with a lookout tower was filled with greenery and monarch butterflies. It was an easy walk with an incredible view from the top of the tower!
On the tower grounds, we visited the local history museum, with so many interesting things to see. A rail car, a giant Fresnel lens, and a very extensive model railroad display. Our friend Sandy would have been in heaven!
And to cap it all off, we had some great food and drinks at a brewery. Yummmmm…
All along the Georgian Bay and North Channel we were surrounded by gorgeousness. Clear water, green trees, big rocks to avoid, small and smaller islands to enjoy, and peaceful anchorages to rest up in. So pretty!
Almost everywhere we went had opportunities for hiking. And we took full advantage.
Did I mention the clear water? People were swimming here. The water was not as cold as you might think!
As we say goodbye to Summer, we are not quite ready for Fall. The plants and flowers are still pretty lush, but the air is a bit crisper, and we can tell that the new season is upon us.
One of our favorite hikes took us up, up, up to a view across the North Channel, and a memorial plaque for a local resident and his wife. A great tribute, and a very nice place to rest at the top. Amazing how far we could see!
And just like that, we were done with Canada. Down came the flag and we were back in the US. Dang it.
Time went too quickly in Canada. We would love to return some day. By boat.
