The Upper Chesapeake Bay is filled with charming towns and villages. But it also has full on cities. Washington DC, Annapolis, and Baltimore are considered “must stops” on most Looper lists.
But choices must be made, and we were just in DC a few years ago…. So Annapolis and Baltimore were our chosen big city adventures!
We cruised into Annapolis right in the middle of a large sailing regatta at the harbor entrance. Yikes! Off with the auto-guidance! So many boats! It was a sunny Sunday, so we should have expected it. But still.
We navigated to our slip, just outside “Ego Alley”. Wow! Again, a lot of boats! And bikinis and beers and bars. Apparently it gets a little crazy on weekends.
Monday was a bit more sedate. We walked around the town and visited “that boat school”, the US Naval Academy. So impressive.
And, we were treated to a nice view of the blood moon over our marina. Ahhhhh….
Baltimore was next. What a surprise! People recommended we skip it… too much crime, nothing open, not what it used to be, etc. We went anyway. So glad we did!
Our first stop was the American Visual Arts Museum. It was fun, eclectic, and memorable. In addition to the giant bra ball and the flatulence post, there was a large and thoughtful exhibit on Healing and the Art of Compassion.
The Inner Harbor had a nice promenade that went on for miles. And a really big beach volley ball scene!
And who knew?! Baltimore is a city for foodies!
We had so much good food there. Mark even sampled the local beer, Natty Boh! He gave it a big thumbs up!
And only in Baltimore…. Bergers Cookies! That ganache on top was to die for.
After spending a week in Baltimore, exploring, eating, and enjoying the city, we left Inconceivable for two weeks (!) to go to Denver for a wedding and then home to see friends and family. It was an odd feeling to leave her for that long….
