We outfitted the boat with all of the gear (and then some) needed to feed ourselves from the bounty of the sea. It was expensive. Probably cheaper to buy things at a trendy, boutique, organic, locally sourced, sustainably harvested seafood store….
Harvesting oysters is mystery to us. They seem to be everywhere, but the tidal lands on the Puget Sound are mostly private. And on the public shellfish beaches you need a very low tide and then you have to eat them on the spot and throw the shells back on the beach.
We were very happy when Mark brought us a giant box of oysters from Taylor’s Seafood! Thanks Bill for shucking and jiving!
Happy again when Dave & Mari & Matt & Pam took us for oysters at Westcott Bay in the San Juans.
Greg really tried to teach us how to catch salmon, and he left us with all of his gear to give it a whirl. We haven’t even had a bite yet. And the season is over on the Puget Sound. Dang it.
Crabs are another story. I think we have this one figured out!
Just don’t ask us about spot shrimp….
