Almost every day that we are in a marina, we take the bikes out of their little compartment, unfold them, plug in the batteries, and go, go, go!
We use them for provisioning, touring the area, and just getting outside for some fresh air! Some of our best times on the loop so far have been on our bikes.
We can go pretty far if we want to, 25 or 30 miles. We usually don’t go that far, but it’s good to know we can!
A lot of Loopers have bikes on board. But fear not! If you don’t have your own bikes, marinas will often have bikes for loan or rent. Biking with friends is a really fun option!
A ride to the Croton Dam, which supplied fresh water to most of Manhattan for years was a particular highlight. So pretty! And a food truck in the park with lobster rolls for lunch was a bonus!
We have taken them on roads and bike paths and hiking trails, into supermarkets (in “shopping cart mode”), to museums, parks, interesting neighborhoods, and scenic viewpoints. The bikes fold up so small that they are even welcome in most restaurants!
Here on the east coast are many Rails to Trails projects, which make for flat, paved, and generally beautiful bike riding. So many places to ride!
The Walkway over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie was one of our favorites. It was built in 1889 and worked as a railroad bridge for years, then it burnt down in 1974, and was rebuilt in 2009 as a pedestrian/bike way. It is used by over 600,000 visitors every year. Fantastic!
Viva le Tour de Loop!
So fun, you guys!! 🚴 💕👏
